Woodland Creation Funding this Winter
The next window to apply for woodland creation funding opens 24 July and closes 15 September, this will be the last chance to apply for planting this winter.
Avian Influenza Prevention Zone – Update
Following the latest assessment of risk in relation to poultry from avian influenza, the mandatory housing measures for poultry and captive birds have been lifted across Wales. This means keepers may, if they choose to, allow their birds outside.

This is later than previously advised due to an increase in payment rates to reflect the actual costs of creating woodland. Higher payment rates announced for farmers creating woodland
The Welsh Government is calling on all farmers in Wales to help tackle the climate emergency by planting trees as higher payment rates for woodland creation are confirmed

Emergency authorisation of Asulam (Asulox) refusal
The Minister for Rural Affairs and North Wales, and Trefnydd has accepted the advice of the HSE to refuse an emergency authorisation for the temporary and controlled use of Asulam (Asulox) to control bracken in 2023.

Carbon credit trading
Farmers and landowners in Wales may be approached by private companies wanting to purchase farmers’ carbon credits to offset greenhouse gas emissions.
Official Controls (Plant Protection Products) Regulations 2020 – Phase 2 Registrations
Businesses and other organisations who use plant protection products (e.g. herbicides) professionally, or have them applied by a third party, are legally required to register. Professional users who did not register by the June 2022 deadline, and Welsh businesses, must provide their details to us as soon as possible to comply with the legislation.
Report a Dead Badger
As part of our Bovine TB Eradication Programme a contract was awarded to collect “badger found dead” carcases for post-mortem purposes. If you come across a dead badger, please note the location of the carcase and call 0808 169 5110.

FerMôntation – SBRI HyBRID 2.0
Anglesey-based social enterprise, Menter Môn has launched a feasibility study in partnership with Lafan Consulting Group. It will assess the viability of precision fermentation technologies and its potential within the Welsh economy. Funded through SBRI HyBRID 2.0, FerMôntation is the first project of its kind in Wales to look at hydrogen to produce protein.
